Markets help the flow of goods to houses in the market perimeter so build Markets when you start to get 'comfortable' stock reserves. Once you have the essential (1 to 8 above) the final pieces are Herbalist, then Trade Posts so I can get crops and livestock going, then a hospital (in preperation for nomads) and finally church/graveyards when people start dying. You need to get a Hunter going quite early as they only produce leather slowly, so build it up early just to build up a little leather reserve. Gatherer is the first priorites because a fully staffed Gatherer Hut (4 workers) will provide 2000+ food per year which is enough to feed 20 people a year. That's not a problem as you only need a blacksmith and tailor when you actally have iron or leather for them to turn into tools & coats. You will be job sharing 1 villager across 3 jobs: woodcutter, tailor, blacksmith. This is my starting strategy 1) Collect materials 2) Build a house for each family 3) Build a Gatherer 4) Build a Hunter & Tailor 5) Build a Woodcutter 6) Build a Blacksmith 7) Build a Forester 8) Build a School. I also play Harsh weather and Hard start so I also have to buy all seeds/livestock from Trade Posts. So all coal I get is bought from Trade Posts.

I play with 3 small mods 'Radius ReColour' (makes the yellow circle blue), 'No Coal in Houses' (so I can use all coal for tools) and 'CC No Smoke' (to help performance). I never bother with mines/quarries any more as I just find they are not worth the amount of tools you get through.
